Dengue cases in the city rose to 450 after 14 more people were tested positive for the virus on Monday. “The number of cases, however, is less this year compared to October last year,” said VK Monga, chairman, MCD health committee.
“Last year, the number of cases went over the 4,000 mark. But we have adopted stringent measures to contain dengue this year. That is why, the figure is only 450 till now,” he said. The number this year includes the 40 cases reported from Delhi cantonment area,” Monga said.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) reported the first case of dengue on March 3 while the first case of dengue death was reported in July.
Till now four persons have died due to dengue haemorrhagic fever in the city. The last death was reported on October 13 after 50-year-old Anita Murari, wife of the director of Lady Hardinge Medical College , died due to the disease.
“An average of eight to 10 cases are being reported daily,” Monga said.
Meanwhile, in Gurgaon, about 100 patients tested positive for the disease so far. Dengue has also claimed two lives in the NCR town. Worried residents have alleged that the administration is least bothered about taking remedial measures, like fogging the area, to curb the disease.
