Denied bribe, constables drag man with pcr van

The gruesome incident took place on Monday when constables Parvinder Kumar and Arman Ali allegedly demanded R100 as bribe from Ravinder Nath Yadav and Sidhu Yadav, both transport operators from Varanasi, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Raghubir Lal said. When truck driver Sidhu Yadav didn’t pay the bribe, the two constables posted at PCR van 11, sped the vehicle in fury and hit him.

“He fell down due to the impact and was dragged around 10-15 metres beneath the PCR jeep on the road, sustaining critical external and internal injuries,” Lal said. After the victim’s brother reported the matter to police officials on Monday, a Circle Officer was deputed to conduct an inquiry into the case. “The report indicated the suspicious behaviour and contradictory statements of two constables and a home guard,” Lal said.

“We have admitted the critically injured man to a hospital and the police department also donated two units of blood for the victim. The two constables were arrested and sent to jail while the home guard is still absconding,” SSP said.
