The infrastructure created for Delhi in the past two years will be looked after by specialised teams of departments concerned.

A high-level committee headed by chief secretary will “coordinate the upkeep and maintenance” of newly created assets and will also monitor the situation on monthly basis.
Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday constituted a special committee to look after and maintain roads, flyovers, pedestrian bridges, greenery and streetscaping work worth thousands of crore that was constructed for the Commonwealth Games.
According to senior Delhi government official, various agencies — such as the Municipal Corporation of Delhi — involved in infrastructure construction and improvement will form a maintenance team or wing within their departments.
While this maintenance team would carry out day-to-day cleaning, maintenance and repair of their own structures, the committee would monitor and review the work carried out by the agencies. The representatives of these agencies would be a part of the committee.
In a story titled 'An uphill fight to stay beautiful' (October 22), HT had highlighted how keeping newly developed infrastructure is the biggest challenge for the civic agencies and experts had suggested an asset management policy to keep infrastructure in good shape.
“She (Dikshit) has underlined the importance of upkeep of newly developed infrastructure in the capital city,” a press release from chief minister's office stated.

Senior government officials said Dikshit has also asked civic agencies to keep roads clean and ensure maintenance of bus shelters, potted plants and signages. She also asked agencies to enforce the Delhi Defacement Act to discourage sticking of bills.
