Four people, including two juveniles, mercilessly beat him with bats and wickets in Outer Delhi on Tuesday evening.

Police said 35-year-old Jaswant Singh, who lived with his family on KN Katju Marg, intervened in an argument his mother was having with the four people.

Police said a stray ball hit Singh's mother, who was standing outside her house with one of her grandsons, while the four alleged killers were playing cricket at 6:30pm.

"His mother Amrita told the boys to be more careful while playing and said that her grandson had had a narrow escape. This infuriated the boys who got into an argument with her," a senior police officer said.

Singh, who lost his left leg in an accident some years ago, saw his mother arguing with the men. He went to her help but ended up having an argument with the four. This led to a big scuffle.

The police were informed and Singh was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

His body was handed over to his family after the autopsy.

The police have arrested one of the juveniles in the case and have begun a hunt to nab the other accused.

A murder case has been registered against them.
