A DMRC spokesperson, in response to HT’s Thursday story ,“In a first, Metro budget goes off-track for Phase 3”, said: “It is the component of the JICA loan that has increased, mainly on account of inclusion of system works on additional corridors and change of alignment from elevated to underground in some portions.”

He added that this eliminated the requirement of domestic borrowings as stipulated earlier.

The report said that costs had gone up by about 10% from its original project cost of Rs 35,000 crore.
