DMRC to add 8 more trains to tackle commuter rush

DMRC sources said the corporation took the decision to push more trains into action to cater to an increase in the number of commuters that it usually noticed during the months of August and September every year.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has decided to add eight more trains to its fleet from Monday in order to help reduce the waiting time for passengers.

DMRC sources said the corporation took the decision to push more trains into action to cater to an increase in the number of commuters that it usually noticed during the months of August and September every year.

“Keeping in view the expected increase in ridership, a study was carried out to prepare a plan to make sure that sufficient number of trains were available for the commuters. The new trains have been added accordingly,” said a DMRC spokesperson.

“The trains will be added during peak operational hours and the arrangement will continue for two months. The same may be continued later depending on the requirement,” the spokesperson added.

According to officials, these trains will be added from the operational maintenance reserve kept in the metro train depots by optimizing the required maintenance schedule.

“The metro trains run very intensively, non-stop from morning till late night throughout the year and therefore need regular maintenance and checkups. The train maintenance wing of DMRC has reworked its entire maintenance planning so that more trains are made available to the general public,” the spokesperson said.
