A 23-year-old postgraduate student was arrested for allegedly brutally assaulting a man last month. Police said he wanted to illustrate the magnitude of power he and his uncle apparently wielded in northwest Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh, police said on Sunday.
Pawan, who is pursuing MA from Kurukshetra University through distance education, and four of his associates, including his uncle Ravi Kumar, had stabbed one Ravi Prakash, who stays in the same area, on June 10.
“They had also burnt the victim’s motorcycle in a fit of rage and their motive, apparently, was to show their power and rowdiness in the said colony,” said P Karunakaran, DCP (northwest).
According to the police, an injured Prakash had been rushed to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital after being mercilessly assaulted during a drinking session to which he had been invited by the accused gang.
During interrogation, police claimed that Pawan had said that Kumar was his uncle and the victim had been Kumar’s close friend.
“After a round of drinks, Kumar had started hurling abuses at Prakash, maintaining that he was the ‘dada’ of the colony and that Prakash should accept his supremacy. When Prakash talked back, Kumar and others, including Pawan, beat him up,” DCP Karunakaran said. Police said that while Pawan and Kumar had been the first ones to assault Prakash by breaking a bottle of beer on his head, one Sandeep had stabbed him as two others, identified as Sanjay and Pushp Kumar, caught hold of the victim. 57-yr-old Retd Army man robbed of Rs. 3 lakh
