The Delhi University has written to St Stephen’s College, asking it to explain last week’s incident in which a group of seniors sprayed cologne on a fresher in the hostel and threw a lighted matchstick at him.

UGC too has asked for an action-taken report from the college. Chairperson S.K. Thorat referred to the Raghavan Committee recommendations against ragging, which include filing of FIRs against accused students.
DU proctor Gurmeet Singh told HT on Friday: “As per media reports, it seems there was ragging in the college hostel. In my letter I have asked for an explanation at the earliest, possibly a day. Let’s see how the college responds.”
But St Stephen’s spokesman Vinod Choudhary said the college was yet to receive any letter either from DU or from UGC. “We will give an appropriate response,” he said. The college has denied that it was a case of ragging, but has suspended four senior students for a month.
