DU bus service a non-starter

“The frequency of the buses is low. One has to wait for a long time before getting a bus. And even if one is lucky then we have to wait for the bus to fill up before it starts moving,” said Sweta Jagannathan, a first-year student of Hindu College.

Students said that it was better to just walk or take a cycle rickshaw because the buses often take long and circuitous way.

“It takes me a lot of time to reach the college since it has too many stops and it does not help when we are in a hurry to reach the college,” said Sneha, a second-year student of St Stephen’s College.

But then there are others like Karishma Kashyap, a second-year student of Ramjas College who is very happy with the bus service.

The bus service, which is available for the students and the staff of the university have a flat charge of Rs 5. The buses ply from Monday to Saturday from 8 am to 6 pm on three routes.

Meanwhile students at South Campus still have to manage without any special bus service. With even no private buses plying, students studying at the south campus or any of the four colleges, Ramlal Anand, Motilal Nehru, Atma Ram Santan Dharm and Venkateshwara situated at the Benito Juarez Marg have a hard time commuting.

“Inspite of writing to the DTC officials we have not received any positive feedback,” said Dinesh Varshney, deputy dean, Students’ Welfare, South Campus.
