The highest pay package given in most colleges is nearly Rs. 13-15 lakh per annum this year and most colleges boast of a large number of students being recruited.

Sugandha Mahajan, the placement cell coordinator of Lady Shri Ram College (LSR) says that the placements this year have been better than last year. “More than 50 companies have come in already and the placements are going on till the end of March.

Apart from companies coming in for the usual mathematical and analytical courses, this year we have seen companies coming in specifically for humanities courses like English and Sociology. Those companies which specifically require humanities students prefer to employ more number of undergraduates as it is easier to train them in the office atmosphere,” she said.

Companies such as McKinsey and Company, Deloitte and Deutsche Bank have already visited the LSR campus. At St Stephen’s College, Goldman Sachs and AT Kearney have visited for placements and Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) has seen recruitments from a number of companies, including Citibank and Futures First so far.

The highest pay package in SRCC has been Rs. 15 lakh per annum and Rs. 14 lakhs at St. Stephen’s College.

“Average pay offered at our campus has risen significantly. This has mainly been due to many global firms starting graduate-trainee programs wherein they recruit from the top campuses in India,” says Ariba Iqbal, placement cell coordinator of St. Stephen’s College.

The average placement package at all three colleges is around Rs. 6.5 lakh.

“The new semester system in Delhi University appears to have benefitted the students in getting placed as the knowledge level has increased,” says CS Sharma, the placement cell convener of SRCC.
