A day after the co-convener of Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) wrote a letter to the Delhi University registrar denying the manhandling of Professor Sanjaya Bohidar by the Vice Chancellor’s security, nearly 100 teachers and students gathered outside the Faculty of Arts complex of Delhi University to protest against the incident.

The protest was organized by members of the ‘Save DU’ movement. Teachers from SRCC also joined, taking exception to the allegation that college teachers had pushed Bohidar out. Angered teachers and SFI students raised slogans and demanded the resignation of the vice-chancellor.
“In my forty-one years of teaching experience in Delhi University, I have never come across an incident like this. This is a shameful incident”, said Amar Deo Sharma, President of Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA).
“When Sanjay Bohidar was manhandled, each one of us was roughed up and manhandled. The culture of debate and dialogue which is central to any university was manhandled and bundled out,” said Mukul Manglik, a teacher at Ramjas.
Responding to the co-convener’s letter, Sanjay Bohidar said, “When I was pushed out of the auditorium, I could not identify the people who physically pushed me out. However, the only SRCC staff member that I did recognize was the librarian of the college.”
