DUTA, varsity admin fail to sort out differences

A few days after the Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) protested outside the vice-chancellor’s (VC) office against the “unilateral functioning of the V-C,” the body is still unhappy with the goings-on within the administration.

University officials claim that no stone is being left unturned in ironing out the problems of the teachers, including issues related to promotions and appointments.

“We have been working consistently for the betterment of the university and the teachers. The university administration has succeeded in removing the impediments from the point system, which will benefit the teachers who are going to be promoted and recruited in future. We are also creating a college teachers’ grievance redressal mechanism,” said a senior DU official.

The university has also opened 390 teaching posts across 50 departments to fill in for the lack of teaching staff in its colleges. The teachers’ association, however, has decided to go hammer and tongs after the administration.

“We will discuss the issues that we had raised on January 10 in a meeting next week. We will conduct an extended DUTA executive meeting on January 24 and then preside over our General Body Meeting at the end of this month.

Among the many issues that DUTA is battling, their ire remains directed at the Ministry of Human Resource Development for having enforced the semester system upon DU.
