Dutch man found dead at YMCA

A 51-year-old Dutch national was found dead in his third floor room in central Delhi's YMCA international men's hostel on Wednesday, police said. HT Correspondent reports.

A 51-year-old Dutch national was found dead in his third floor room in central Delhi's YMCA international men's hostel on Wednesday, police said.

"Albert's body was recovered from his non-air conditioned room at around 9 am on Wednesday morning," said a senior police officer requesting anonymity.

Police said Albert had checked into the facility 10 days after he had landed in the capital on June 21.

"A cleaner employed at the facility informed the administration after he noticed a foul smell emanating from Albert's room," the officer said.

Thereafter, police were informed and Albert's rotting body was recovered from room number 363, after a team from the local police station broke down the door that had been bolted from inside.

"According to the staff at the said facility, Albert had not been seen much after he had checked into the facility. He had hung a 'Do Not Disturb' sign outside his room and used to stay indoors most of the time," said the officer.

Police said no suicide note was recovered from the victim.

According to police, Albert's body has been preserved at the RML hospital for three days now.

"We have informed the Dutch embassy and the victim's family has also been intimated about the incident. We will send his body for post mortem after his family members arrive in Delhi," the officer added.
