If you are a serial violator of traffic rules, you won’t have it easy anymore.

From June, traffic policemen across the Capital will carry a special GPRS-enabled handheld device to penalise habitual offenders the e-way.
Under this hi-tech system, penalty slips will be issued electronically through the handheld device, which will be connected to a central database. The moment a traffic violator’s vehicle information is fed into the device, it will go through the database to check if the car was involved in previous violations, is stolen or is on the suspicious vehicles’ list.
According to officials, this would translate into steeper fines for serial offenders.
“The prosecution history of a violator will be at our finger-tips. Besides, details of violations once stored in the device cannot be changed, tampered with or deleted unlike the existing manual challan system,” said Satyendra Garg, joint commissioner of police (traffic).
