Eco-fuel coming, to cost more

Environment-friendly higher-grade fuels — Euro IV compliant petrol and diesel — to be sold across 13 cities, including Delhi, from April 1 may cost more than normal petrol and diesel.

Environment-friendly higher-grade fuels — Euro IV compliant petrol and diesel — to be sold across 13 cities, including Delhi, from April 1 may cost more than normal petrol and diesel.

The government is considering differential pricing, petroleum secretary S. Sundaresan said. The secretary didn’t give details but Petroleum Ministry sources said the price difference between these fuels and regular ones could be less than Re 1 per litre. This would allow refiners to recover investments — Rs 30,000 crore, the sources said — made on upgrading facilities to produce the fuels.

Higher-grade fuels have lower emission levels because they emit less pollutants like sulphur and benzene.
