The recipients got the distress message from the account with a subject 'terrible situation'.

The email account is used by the PMO unit of PIB to send speeches delivered by the Prime Minister and other information related to him to correspondents and news organisations.

Later, an email sent by the unit to correspondents asked to ignore the distress message.

"It has come to our notice that emails have been received by some email accounts from an email ID that impersonates the genuine email ID of PM Unit, PIB (dpr_pm@yahoo.com). The fake email comes with the subject line 'My Terrible Situation.' The said email may kindly be ignored," the email read.
