Essar promoter challenges 2G case summons

A day after Bharti Cellular chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal got reprieve from the Supreme Court, Essar group promoter Ravi Ruia today challenged a special CBI court order summoning him as accused in a case relating to grant of additional spectrum to the company in 2002 during the NDA tenure.

A day after Bharti Cellular chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal got reprieve from the Supreme Court, Essar group promoter Ravi Ruia on Tuesday challenged a special CBI court order summoning him as accused in a case relating to grant of additional spectrum to the company in 2002 during the NDA tenure.

Ruia, also facing trial in another case related to the 2G spectrum scam, was then a director in one of the accused company Sterling Cellular Limited.

“However, based on a completely untenable premise, the petitioner (Ruia) has been summoned to face trial by the impugned order,” the petition stated, adding Ruia was neither the ‘directing will and mind’ nor the ‘alter ego’ of Sterling Cellular Ltd.
