"I was thrown out of the orphanage and was not allowed to complete my Class 10 exams. The wardens would harass us, forcing me to run away not once but several times. Because of this, they threw me out," said Devvrat, who lived in the orphanage.

“I have applied to the School of Open learning but I don’t know whether I'll get in,” Devvrat added.

Others claimed that the atrocities were harsher than what had been reported.

“In the winters, we were made to sleep on the floor because the orphanage stripped off the bedding. If we did not wake up on time, the wardens hit us with leather belts. We were also made to clean utensils and do other chores," said Himanshu, who left the orphanage in April.

“One of the inmates who has alleged that he was not allowed to take his exam is today being sponsored by us to complete his graduation from Delhi University. They are now casting aspersions on us,” said a spokesperson.
