Expelled JNU seniors get support from ABVP, YFE

With student parties such as Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Youth For Equality (YFE) pitching support against the rustication order, the movement started by the Masters of Computer Application students is slowly gaining momentum. YFE has also written to the Vice-Chancellor requesting him to reconsider the decision.

Five students — including two indicted — have been on an indefinite hunger strike since Saturday. A small group has also met JNU Chancellor Professor Yash Pal on this issue.

“The Proctor said the decision was on the basis of circumstantial evidence and body language of the juniors. The statement is ambiguous and cannot be the basis of such a harsh penalty,” said Amit Srivastav, student and member of YFE.

ABVP’s stand on the issue is not too different.

“To my knowledge, no student union is involved as of now. There is a set guideline available on our website to lodge grievances and the ongoing hunger strike wont put us in a spot of bother,” said H.C. Bohidar, chief proctor.
