These buses would offer point to point comfortable travel at reasonable fare and operate on the lines of the chartered service.

These are among the nearly 200 low-floor CNG buses flagged off by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit at a function.

"We want to decrease number of private vehicles to protect our environment and decrease road traffic. We are providing Express Service buses to office goers, which provide a good alternative to cars," Dikshit said.

The buses which have been inducted into the DTC fleet include 54-AC and 90 non AC buses for express service.

Dikshit appealed to the people to use buses instead of travelling by car. She hoped the step will help to take off at least 6,000 to 7,000 cars from the capital's roads.

The point to point express bus service will cater to office goers and people going to commercial hubs. This service will be available during morning and evening time.

"The process of installing GPS in buses has started and I hope that it will be complete by the time the games start," she said.

The CM has also noted that 42 bus depots are ready and work is on for constructing Millennium Parks for buses, near Indraprastha and Raj Ghat.

Dikshit said that no other city in no other country has such a large fleet of about 5,000 low-floor CNG buses.
