Family lays claim to Lok Nayak body, to undergo DNA test

Police said the family, from Jaitpur of southeast Delhi, gave some crucial details that matched the body, and so they have decided to conduct a DNA test to confirm their claim.

“The family told us that their daughter had gone missing in November. A missing complaint for the same had been lodged at a local police station. Since they are very sure, we have decided to perform a DNA test,” a senior police officer said.

The body was found lying behind the burns ward of the hospital.

The post mortem report revealed that the woman had been stabbed to death and the body had been dumped on campus at least four days before it was found. “There are several stab injuries on the upper part of the body. Her throat was also slit by a sharp-edged weapon. It will be easy for us to trace the killers once we identify the body,” the officer added.

According to sources, over a dozen families had approached the police after the body was recovered. But the details given by them did not match with the body.

“We cannot conduct a DNA test of every person approaching us. If the details given by the family match with the body, only then can we go for a DNA test. In every case where an unidentified body is found, a DNA sample of the body is preserved,” he added.

Police had said that two to three guards are posted at every entry gate of the hospital, and so the possibility of someone dumping the body there was unlikely. Investigation later pointed out that the woman was killed inside the premises.
