Faults fixed, Metro service to improve

The glitches have mostly been related to power supply failure to trains through overhead electrification (OHE), frequent shutdown of the power system and loss of train identification numbers.

"Technical glitches cannot be avoided fully in a complex technical system like the Delhi Metro. But we have identified some faults in the system and corrected them," Raj Kumar, director (operations), DMRC, told HT on Tuesday.

Faults have been identified at some points where electricity supply to trains shifts from one sub-station to another. To fix this, faulty insulators have been replaced at two places, Kumar said. "There was a fault in the design. A team of experts from France is replacing the faulty insulators," he revealed.

Again, some malware in the power system software of the train computer network was causing frequent shutdowns of power.

Loss of identification numbers of trains is another reason for service disruption.

"Some of the variable components of the system that collect and transfer information to the Operations Control Centre for smooth running of trains were not responding promptly," said Kumar.

"But Siemens has now repaired the system."
