Despite Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) making terrorism a big poll issue, Delhi voters think otherwise. Only 3.1 per cent actually rate terror as a poll issue which affects their lives. Professor Dipankar Gupta, sociologist, JNU, feels that if people vote for BJP it won’t be because they relate to issues like terror but because of anti-incumbency. “There is a big disconnect between what people think is a issue for them and what the party ideologues consider as poll issues,” he said.

Even demolition and sealing — which, till a few months back, was considered one of the main issues in Delhi — seems to have become a non-issue. “With the Urban Development Ministry taking steps to de-seal shops and legalise unauthorised constructions, this issue seems to have lost steam,” said a Congress leader.
