The allottees of the 2010 housing scheme of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) are now going to protest against the delay in the completion of the flats outside the residence of Delhi Lt Governor Tejendra Khanna. The LG is also the chairman of the land development agency.
DDA had allotted 16,000 flats in the 2010 housing scheme but most of the flats are either not complete or don't have water and power connections.
Allottees who have got flats in areas such as Mukherjee Nagar, Vasant Kunj D-6, Dwarka sector 18-B, Jasola, Molarband and Motia Khan had protested outside DDA's headquarter last month and their representatives had also met the DDA vice-chairman Sanjay Srivastava. They plan to hold a protest march outside Raj Niwas, the LG's residence, on Friday.
The allottees had given a petition to Srivastava and demanded that a clear timeframe be declared by DDA on when they plan to complete work on all the flats and interest be paid to allottees who have made full payment but haven't got flats yet.
Hindustan Times was the first to report that DDA had taken full payment for flats at Mukherjee Nagar that were incomplete. This was followed by a series of reports on other areas, which led to DDA to suspend officials responsible for the delay. Srivastava had also ordered weekly status reports from all the sites. "The pace of work has improved thanks to the intervention by the DDA vice-chairman but even at the present speed, our flats wouldn't be habitable before next year," said an allottee of the Mukherjee Nagar multi-storey flats.

"Though DDA is now handing possession to allottees in Vasant Kunj D-6, the common areas in the apartments are not ready yet," said an allottee.
