For once, Shera’s on track....!

The super specialty Sports Injury Center that is coming up at the Safdarjung Hospital for the Common Wealth Games will be up and about by its deadline in May this year, says Dr Deepak Chaudhary, orthopaedic surgeon at the hospital who is also heading the project under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The injury center is being constructed on an area of 0.6 acres at the cost of Rs 70 crore. “We are going as per schedule and in some aspects we are ahead of it. The center will surely be functional by the end of May, which is our deadline,” said Chaudhary.

The project began started in May last year. A staff of 187 people has already been sanctioned for the center. Safdarjung Hospital had started a sports injury clinic in 1997, which was converted into a sports injury clinic in 2003.

“We had been pushing for a full fledged center for more than three years and the upcoming CWG proved to be a stimulus for it,” Chaudhary said.

“Our sports persons need not go abroad for specialised treatment after the center becomes functional. The Games were the stimulus. Our facility will cater to every sportsperson at a nominal fee which can be waived off for those who can’t afford treatment,” Chaudhary said.
