The debate over Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) PJ Thomas’ appointment to the Supreme Court is about propriety and the selection process not Thomas’s integrity, former CVC N Vittal said on Thursday.

“Thomas had a clean service record and need not resign since there was no complaint against him individually,” said Vittal on the sidelines of a seminar that discussed involvement of citizens against corruption.
"The whole question is about selection process and
perception about the CVC. There are two issues before the SC. One is that what kind of people can become CVC, that is a man of impeccable integrity and secondly that the committee of Prime Minister, leader of opposition and home minister should choose CVC through consultation or consent,” he added. The seminar — also saw the launch of Project VigEye to provide a user-friendly platform for public interface with the CVC.
