A 22-year-old French woman lost her leg and a thumb when a train ran over her at a suburban railway station in the Capital on Sunday afternoon.

Emily Gerold boarded the Rewari-Delhi local train from Gurgaon. When the train arrived at the Patel Nagar railway station, Emily got down. “She must have alighted at the platform during the train’s brief halt and failed to board it when it started to leave,” said a senior railway official.
Trying to hop on to the moving train, Emily slipped and fell into the gap between the train and the platform, said station sources. She was rushed to RML hospital’s emergency ward. Later she was shifted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, where she was operated upon on Monday. “Her leg had to be amputated,” said the doctor leading the team treating her. Emily’s parents are reaching Delhi on Tuesday.
