The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has woken up from a long and expensive slumber and is scouting for contractors who will fix the long neglected and damaged furniture within the next three months.

It had spent Rs. 38 crore in 2010 to procure the furniture and now it will spend another Rs. 21 lakh on repairwork. “It will all be repaired and most likely be auctioned,” said a senior DDA official, who did not wish to be named.

The 1,168 flats of the CWG Village, which housed foreign athletes and officials, had beds, side tables, sofa sets, closets and dining tables imported from China and Malaysia. They also had electronic gadgets, cutlery and linen.

Everything else was removed by the organising committee soon after the Games, but the furniture was left behind for want of a clear-cut policy as to what to do with them.

Now, with the DDA’s plans, there is hope that some of those crores spent on the fixtures might be recovered at last.
