Garib Rath train passengers to pay for bed-rolls at counters

Rail passengers will now be given the option of availing bed-rolls while booking tickets for the Garib Rath train and pay the requisite charges at the booking counter itself.

Similar provision will also be made for passengers booking tickets through internet, a Railway notification said.

At present, these bed-rolls are supplied to the passengers on demand and charges are collected separately from them.

Of late, there were frequent complaints from passengers regarding supply of used bed-roll or incomplete set, excess charges, non-issuance of receipt among others.

Apart from causing discontent among passengers, this also resulted in loss of revenue to the Railways.

The provisions for supply of bed-rolls in Garib Rath trains shall be implemented on trial basis for a period of six months to assess the demand under the scheme.

Once the necessary modifications in the Railways' software are made, all zonal railways will be intimated the date for the implementation of the scheme.
