Govt cancels Noida operator’s bus permits

Orders probe into how operator got vehicles registered in city

The transport department has cancelled the permits of all the buses owned by a Noida-based transport operator, one of whose vehicles was used in the rape of a 23-year-old girl in the city on Tuesday.

Officials said the operator, Dinesh Yadav, had 10 buses registered in Delhi of which three have been impounded.

Yadav had been permitted to use the vehicles to ferry tourists and children and people headed to schools and offices.

The state transport authority — the transport department's wing that issues permits to stage carriages, contract carriages and other buses — cancelled the permits of all the buses, along with those of his tourist taxis.

“All the vehicles were registered using a Burari address and the permits were also taken by this operator using the same address. We have cancelled the permits and have pasted a notice on the door of the Burari house,” said a senior transport department official.

Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit had announced on Monday that the permit of the bus would be cancelled as soon as the bus was identified and seized by the police.

“We have launched an inquiry into how the bus operator managed to get the buses registered in Delhi and have permits for them when he is actually a resident of Noida,” a senior transport department official said.
