The information and broadcasting ministry said the new rates would be applicable for the advertisements from September 1.

These rates will be applicable for all advertisements released by Directorate of Audio and Visual Publicity. The increased rates would help 4,000 newspapers and periodicals facing the brunt of increased rate of newsprint, the ministry said.

Information and Broadcasting Minister PR Dasmunsi had taken up the issue with finance ministry after Indian Newspapers Society had asked the government to revise the rates following higher production costs.
