'Govt ready to end impasse with Oppn'

With the opposition parties threatening to stall the coming budget session over their demand for a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe into the 2G-spectrum scam, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday said his government was ready for "all possible approaches" to end the impasse.

"Our government is ready for all possible approaches to end the impasse," he told reporters at Rashtrapati Bhavan after the cabinet reshuffle.

When asked about the standoff with the opposition over the JPC issue, he said, "We want Parliament should function and all problems can be debated. We are not afraid of any subject being brought up for discussion. Parliament is the forum for discussion."

On surging inflation, Singh exuded confidence that prices would stabilise by March.

"I am not an astrologer. But I am confident that the price situation would be brought under control... We will be able to bring price stability by March," he said. "There are certain factors which are beyond our control. Petroleum prices have gone up."
