The Delhi government has relaxed its policy on luxury tax. Hotels won’t have to pay luxury tax on rooms priced at up to Rs 1,000 per day. Earlier, the limit was Rs 500 per day.
“Smaller hotels were not doing any renovation ahead of the Games. We expect a large number of foreign and Indian visitors coming and staying in these hotels. With this exemption, the hotels will now have enough money to improve infrastructure,” Delhi Finance Minister Ashok Kumar Walia said.
The minister added that the exemption in luxury tax would cost the state exchequer Rs 1.5 crore. But the good news includes luxury hotels too. Such hotels in the city have also been given partial exemption.
