'Govt-states to hold talks on SC order on anti-naxal ops'

In the wake of the Supreme Court order on disarming the special police officers (SPOs) in Chhattishgarh, the Centre will soon hold a meeting with the chief ministers of states facing the Left-wing extremism to discuss the impact of the judgment on the anti-Naxal operations.

Home minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday said the SC has asked for a compliance report from the Centre and the Chhattisgarh government with in six weeks.

There are some areas in the judgment which are to be read carefully, he said, adding that he will have to discuss it with the CMs concerned.

Chidambaram was addressing his monthly press conference wherein he elaborated the home ministry’s response on other issues as well.

Violence level down to zero in Bengal
Chidambaram said the Centre has been told that the level of the Maoist-led violence has come down to nearly zero in West Bengal and there are suggestions talks can take place. He, however, added that nothing much should be concluded from these suggestions.

J&K militant rehab faces hurdles
Chidambaram said there were practical issues in implementing the Jammu and Kashmir government’s rehabilitation policy for militants, who have crossed over to Pakistan occupied Kashmir.
