There are a total of 1,218 colonies out of 1,638 unauthorised colonies which were given provisional certificates by the government in 2008. However, 125 of these were recently served show-cause notices as less than 50% construction had taken place in these colonies.

“We will soon start the regularisation process of those colonies which were granted provisional certificates and meet all the eligibility criteria and fulfil all the norms,” said AK Walia, urban development minister.

The Delhi government has been facing a lot of flak over issuance of provisional certificates to some of the unauthorised colonies which do not meet the criteria. Recently, the Delhi Lokayukta had directed the Delhi government to file a report on the allegations of irregularities in giving provisional regularisation certificates to some unauthorised colonies.
