A box containing a grenade was found inside an old well at Red Fort in Old Delhi area of North district on Monday morning.

A team of police reached the spot along with the bomb disposal squad. Fire department officials said that they got a call from police at 8.30am on Monday, after which fire tenders were rushed to the spot.
A senior police officer said that the box was found near Lahori Gate, which is the main entrance to Red Fort.
Police sources said that the grenade was found during the cleaning of the well. A security guard posted at the fort called up the control room and informed about what he first thought was a suspicious looking object. When the box was opened, a grenade was found in it. So the bomb disposal squad was alerted. On examining the well, at least 3 more such boxes were found to be inside the well.
“There are 2-3 more such boxes visible within the well. The bomb disposal squad has been called in to retrieve and diffuse them if they are found to be active,” the officer said.
