Hand chopped for demanding wage

Police said Rohit Kumar (25), who owns an electronic appliances repair shop in Chandra Vihar in East Delhi, was attacked by one of his customers who refused to pay. HT reports.

All he wanted was to be paid for the work he had done but he was instead attacked and his arm nearly chopped off in return.

Police said Rohit Kumar (25), who owns an electronic appliances repair shop in Chandra Vihar in East Delhi, was attacked by one of his customers who refused to pay. Kumar had fixed the faulty refrigerator of accused Arjun Singh (35) and had charged Rs 600 for the work.

The police said the accused had said he would pay Kumar later but even on insisting several times, he had not paid him.

On Tuesday, the victim himself went to collect the payment but the accused reportedly argued with him and in a fit of rage, attacked Kumar with a sword in his house, the police said.

Recuperating at the hospital, Kumar said, "Last week Arjun got his refrigerator to my shop and wanted to get it fixed. We did that and the repairing work cost us Rs 600 which I asked him to pay. He said that he would pay in some time."

A few days later Kumar sent one of his employees to collect the cash but he said Singh refused to pay.

Kumar's friend Angad, who accompanied him to Singh's house, rushed the victim to Max Balaji Hospital in Patparganj where the doctors were able to reattach the hand.

The police have registered a case against Singh.
