Haryana CM promises Metro to new Kundli-Sonipat township

Sonipat is located on National Highway 1 and is a 20 minute drive from Delhi’s western border near Narela. The new Metro line would be an extension of the existing Delhi Metro green line which runs up to Mundka in Delhi. “Once it reaches Narela, the Haryana government will propose its extension up to Kundli-Sonipat. The government will bear a share of cost for the project,” said Hooda.

Speaking at the Hindustan Times’ Leaderspeak@ht conclave on the topic ‘Unfolding the Haryana growth story- Investment opportunities in Kundli- Sonipat’, Hooda said that a slew of big-ticket infrastructure projects are part of the development plan of Kundli- Sonipat, the “upcoming second Gurgaon” of Haryana.

According to SS Dhillon, principal secretary of Haryana’s town and country planning and urban estates, almost 80% of land acquisition for upcoming infrastructure projects such as roads, master sewerage and drainage lines, power and water supply channels has already been completed.

Dhillon, who was part of Hooda’s entourage during the conclave, said he will prevent any “Gurgaon-like delay in delivery of projects and civic infrastructure”.

Besides five model industrial estates coming up in Sonipat, the Rajiv Gandhi Education City is being developed in the area where 11 reputed educational institutions, including the National Law University, have been allotted land.

Hooda said an all women’s university at Khanpur along with a women medical college, the National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) and a number of other institutions will make Sonipat-Kundli a global education hub.

The CM said the government was in the process of acquiring more than 3,000 acres of land for an industrial township at Khakhauda while it has plans for acquiring another 3,000 acres to develop an industrial township at Laath-Jauli-Bidhal.
