The Crime Branch of Delhi Police have arrested a gangster who was wanted in more than 20 cases of murder, extortion and robbery.
Identified as Krishan Solanki, the alleged gangster had recently kidnapped his lawyer and demanded a ransom of Rs 15 lakh from his wife. The police said that Solanki was earlier detained under the National Security Act.
Solanki was booked under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in 2009 for his alleged involvement in cases of contract killing, land grabbing and extortion in South west and Outer Delhi.
Solanki was on the run ever since the MCOCA case was registered against him. “He was also wanted in the abduction and robbery of his own lawyer on July 15 this year,” said Ashok Chand, DCP (crime).
He abducted the lawyer
along with his driver and took him to a factory in Keshav Puram.
The lawyer was tortured and when his wife agreed to pay the ransom, Solanki took him to his house.
“While they were waiting near the lift of the apartment where the money was to be delivered by the lawyer’s wife, he managed to escape from their clutches,” Chand added.
In 2004, Solanki had assaulted then deputy superintendent of Tihar Jail BS Bhatia inside the prison with an improvised sharp-edged weapon after the official recovered 44 gm of charas from him.
Even while in jail, Solanki used to threaten businessmen using his associates.
