In what could be the most damning disclosure in the David Headley case, senior government officials virtually confirmed that India suspects he was a double agent, working for both American agencies and Pakistan-based militant outfit Lashkar-e-Tayyeba.

While the disclosure was made on condition of anonymity, senior government officials said they did suspect that America’s Central Intelligence Agency did know of Headley’s LeT links but did not convey this to India, for fear of comprising their own operations.
Investigators here say they’re watching to see what kind of sentencing Headley faces in the US and believe this would be a indicator of whether or not he enjoys covert support from any US government agency.
It is believed that US agencies opted not to inform New Delhi of Headley’s LeT links believing that their own operations infiltrating into the Lashkar could be compromised. But, India will push for Headley’s extradition.
Meanwhile, India is making enquiries in the US on who paid Headley’s credit card bills. During his visits to India, Headley spent lakhs of rupees through credit cards issued by US banks and in fake Indian currency.
