The decision was taken in a meeting at the LG office a few days ago in which the DSIIDC had made a presentation on the “adaptive reuse” of the 71-acre land along the Yamuna.

Senior officials said the site that produced 135 MW electricity would soon be converted into a hi-tech government office complex. The historic features of the buildings that have outlived their original function would be retained while others would be redeveloped.

“The 26-acre of Rajghat Power plant complex and five-acre of Himadri complex would be redeveloped for government offices. The 16-acre area of ash pond would be converted into a green area with a water body. While a DTC bus parking has already come up on 14-acre land of ash pond, another bus parking for buses under the cluster scheme would be developed on the remaining 10 acres,” a senior DSIIDC official said.

It has also proposed electric buses, cycle tracks and elevated traveller inside the complex. The organisation has also proposed to develop an urban forest and a water body close to the historic Salimgarh Fort and convert it into a tourist spot.

“The project is likely to cost about Rs 600 crore. But it will be a self-financing project. We intend to sell off the power plant equipment and rent out the new office complex,” said another senior official.
