After three and a half months in judicial custody, actor Shiney Ahuja (32), accused of raping his maid, has been granted bail but has been asked to stay out of Mumbai to prevent him from tampering with evidence.
The Bombay High Court has permitted the actor to come to Mumbai only during his trial. Shiney’s counsel Shirish Gupte said that after being released, the actor would shift to New Delhi, where his family resides, along with his wife.
The fast track court at Sewree will frame charges against the actor on October 7.
Granting bail, Justice AP Deshpande asked Shiney to refrain from offering any inducement to witnesses. The bail was granted against a payment of Rs 50,000 as surety.
The actor has been asked to surrender his passport and restrained from travelling abroad without permission.
Shrikant Shivade, Shiney’s lawyer, said that the actor would spend at least two more nights in the Arthur Road Prison, until bail formalities were completed by Saturday. He has been in jail since June 15.
