Hired by councillor, contract killers held for double murder

On Sunday, two persons —Rajkumar and Dharmender Tanwar — were shot dead at Bhondsi near Gurgaon. The Gurgaon police had filed a case against unknown persons. However, with the arrest of the two shooters of Jaggu Pehalwan gang — Naveen Kasana, 25, and Udaiveer Singh, 24 — the police have solved the case.

“During interrogation the accused revealed that Jaggu Pehalwan was hired by Virender alias Binder Gujjar, the councillor, for eliminating the duo who had allegedly attempted to kill him. The councillor was shot at by unknown persons in the run-up to the municipal council election.

“Gujjar was attacked by a group of criminals recently and had received five gunshot injuries,” Arun Kampani, DCP (special cell) said. His associate Anil Kakran was killed in the attack.

Virender originally hails from Uttar Pradesh. But he has been living in Gurgaon for many years. According to the police, there are over 10 criminal cases, including murder, registered against him. He, along with his two associates, allegedly committed murder of Rajesh, a restaurant owner, in 2006. He was also suspected to be involved in the murder of Sunil Malik, a property dealer. He is also allegedly involved in the killing of a woman, Sangita in 2006.

“We have taken the accused under the transit remand from Delhi police and an investigation is on,” said DCP Hamid Akthar.
