Hoax call: Metro’s second arrest

Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Monday arrested a 22-year-old man from Dwarka Morh Metro station for making a hoax call. The man was identified through the CCTV footage from a Metro station.

This is the second time in the Metro’s history that a hoax caller was identified through CCTV footage and later arrested. On December 6, Prashant Pandey had claimed that a bomb was planted at Rajiv Chowk Metro station.

According to Delhi Metro spokesperson Anuj Dayal, Pandey had called the police control room at 10.27 p.m. on December 6 claiming that a bomb was planted at the Rajiv Chowk station.

“We had immediately restricted entry of commuters to the station and had carried out a thorough inspection of the station and the train track by a bomb disposal squad and a dog squad. Since nothing was found, the police had declared the call a hoax at 12.06 a.m.,” Dayal said.

The CISF traced the call to a PCO at the Rajiv Chowk Metro station through CCTV footage of the date. The security team was on a look out for him and nabbed him at about 9.30 a.m. on Monday when he was entering the Dwarka Morh Metro station.

Pandey has been put under police custody at Rajouri Garden police station for further interrogation.
