The incident was reported from New Friends Colony on Saturday morning and the arrests were made on Sunday, Additional Commissioner of Police (South-East) Virender Chahal said. The arrested were identified as Edward, the father of the girl, and Ruben Joseph, a security guard.

The bodies of Hari Lal (25) and Bimal (22) were found buried in a park near Shankar Market in B-Block of New Friends Colony. Their identity could not be established initially but with the help of three SIM cards recovered from there, police managed to identify the victims.

"They were strangulated to death by the duo for the honour of their caste and religion," Chahal said.

Lal is a resident of Jalandhar while Bimal belongs to West Champaran in Bihar.

"We found that the boy belonged to a family in Jalandhar. They came to the capital and identified his body. The identity of the woman was ascertained as Bimal," Chahal said.

Family members of Bimal were questioned during which they claimed that Bimal arranged a meeting with her family members and Hari Lal at B-434, New Friends Colony, an under-construction building, to take approval of their marriage.

"At the venue, Bimal's family met Lal, who also offered money for allowing his marriage with Bimal. Edward was against this marriage," Chahal said.

On July 10, Edward came to B-434, New Friends Colony at around 7 pm where Ruben told him that his daughter Bimal and Lal were present in the servant quarters.

"Edward reached the second floor room of the servant quarters and found his daughter and Hari Lal in a compromising position. He slapped Lal in anger who picked up a kitchen knife to attack him. Ruben also entered the room.

"Edward got hold of Lal with the help of Ruben and strangulated him with a shawl. When Bimal cried for help, Edwards and Ruben strangulated Bimal with a handkerchief.

"The duo then burnt the shawl and threw away the burnt remnants. They took out the bodies one by one in the night, put them on the waste dump by the boundary wall of the adjoining park and covered them with grass," Chahal said.

Lal was earlier married to one Poonam and has a son aged three years. He was working in an iron factory and came to Delhi in search of a job. Bimal was working as a maid with a family of a businessman in New Friends Colony.
