'Humble' Sachin Pilot to remain 'approachable' to people

Pilot also said his stint in the ministry would also provide him with opportunities to learn from seniors, including his father-in-law Farooq Abdullah.

"It's a good mix of youth and experience in the Cabinet. I would have the opportunity to learn from the seniors," he told PTI after the swearing-in ceremony on Thursday when asked about Abdullah being included in the Cabinet on the same day as him.

Pilot, 31, who was given a rousing welcome by his supporters at his official residence at 3, Tyagraj Road in the national capital said he will try to carry forward "the teachings of his father to remain humble and approachable to the common man from politics to governance now".

Pilot, upon his arrival at his residence from the Rashtrapati Bhavan after the ceremony, also sought blessings of his mother Rama Pilot.

Pilot, who said he "especially wanted to wear the traditional headgear" during his swearing-in, was "humbled and happy" when he was communicated the decision to include him in the Union cabinet.

The Congress leader who trounced BJP's Kiran Maheshwari by more than 76,000 votes in Ajmer also said it would be "his effort to deliver the best performance expected of him during his stint in the government".

Pilot, who is the brother-in-law of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah further said, "As young leaders, we will all have the collective responsibility to ensure that the 100-day action plan is implemented in the proper time frame. The economic crisis is also to be addressed."

The young turk from Rajasthan said he would try to get equal opportunities for his home state -- Rajasthan.

Being inducted in the council of minister for the first time, Pilot wants to ensure the delivery of promises and plans framed by the Union Government.

"It is a new responsibility for sure but the most essential thing is to deliver and perform," he said.

Hordes of supporters from Rajasthan and Haryana had arrived at Pilot's residence to wish and greet him on the day of his swearing in as the Minister of State.
