I-T man comes to cop's rescue, is shot in jaw

2 men attack constable for stopping them from drinking in their car.

Delhi is on a short fuse and the rage is pouring on to the roads.



A 47-year-old income-tax inspector was shot in the jaw when he tried to stop two men from hitting a policeman with a hammer in south Delhi's Sarojini Nagar on Monday at around 10pm.



The two men, who were in a Santro car, rammed the bike of constable Chandra Vijay Singh as he was driving to the Sarojini Nagar police station, the police said. The bike was dragged some distance. The two stepped out of the car and started hitting the constable.

The men, said the police, were angry with Singh, 39, because a few minutes ago he had stopped them from consuming liquor in the car in Netaji Nagar's Suvidha Market.

Out for a post dinner-stroll, I-T inspector Rajesh Sharma, who lives in a government house in I-block of Sarojini Nagar, rushed to the constable’s rescue.

Singh fractured his right hand and suffered other injuries. But Sharma and he are doing fine.
