On Wednesday evening, police said they were probing all angles, including the role of terrorist outfits, Bangladeshi groups and even local criminals.

“The idea was to create panic and they managed to do it. The High Court is a crowded area, full of litigants and a stone’s throw from India Gate,” said a police officer.

Late on Wednesday evening, the case was handed over to the Special Cell of Delhi Police.

Sources said forensic experts collected a canvas bag, some white powder and battery-like object from the spot of the blast, along with shrapnel. However, no timer device was found.

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses claimed that the front portion of the Ford Figo car — near which the blast took place — caught fire after the blast.

“At first, we thought it was a CNG blast. Soon the area was cordoned off. No one saw anyone keeping the packet near the car,” said Sarfraz, a lawyer.
