‘Improve Indo-Pak ties’

US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, James Dobbins, on Thursday said an improvement in Indo-Pak relations will automatically improve the situation in Afghanistan.

“I think any improvement in India-Pakistan ties will automatically improve the Afghanistan situation. I have met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif twice in a little more than two weeks and my sense is improving relations with India is high on his list of priorities,” he told the media.

Pakistan has for long maintained sorting out the Kashmir issue with India is the way to find peace in Afghanistan.

Dobbins, who discussed the scheduled peace talks with Taliban with foreign secretary Ranjan Mathai, said Indian officials were anxious about the talks.

“Nobody knows how this is going to progress and it is certainly not sure if it will result in a diminishing of violence and a successful evolution towards peace. But I didn’t get a sense they thought it wasn’t worth trying for. I don’t really want to speak for the Indians right now,” said Dobbins.
