Q) I read the article on KPO/LPO which was published in Hindustan Times dated (May 13, 2008). I am a lawyer. And though I am quite experienced I do not have any experience of working in an LPO. What should I do?

A) Anuradha, no prior specialised training or experience is required to get a job in a KPO/LPO. Your understanding of law and legal concepts will suffice. However, your experience of working as a lawyer will surely help you in getting a job in the legal research, contract drafting and document review segments of the LPO industry. Look at your current earnings and review what is offered to you by the LPO — you could negotiate a good compensation package for yourself.

Q) I am pursuing a five-year law course from D.E.S law college, Pune. Can I start my career with an LPO or do I need to practice law first?
— Faran Khatani
A) Faran, you can start you career working with a LPO. There is no requirement to practice law first and thereafter seek a career in an LPO. All that is required is a good understanding of law and legal concepts to pursue a career in the LPO industry. I believe the earlier you start the better.
